across the area from canada. you can see just a few clouds skirting through here but not too much there to talk about. look at these temperatures from yesterday. 96degrees at national airport. breaking a record at dulles of 93 degrees. and 92 at baltimore. now, 96, we're some 14 degrees warmer than we should be. today, we are nowhere near that. we talked about this earlier. we are pretty close to almost a 20-degree temperature difference by the time we head through into this afternoon. it is 67 right now at national airport. 55 at gaithersburg. we have agot 58 at baltimore. 59 at manassas and 65 to the south at fredericksburg. we have tropical storm igor to talk about, moving very slowly. maximum sustained winds at 40 miles per hour. right now, there are watches in effect for the cape verde islands. other than that, not a whole lot going on. there is a chance it could possibly fizzle out. we'll hope so but we'll watch it. that ridge of high pressure building its way in. we are talking upper 70s today compared to 96 degrees yesterday. but no shortage of sunshine. we'll see the wind

head into friday look at this. we're well in the warm sector. the low is almost in canada with the warm front up into ontario. we're going to be sitting for three days of some pretty serious temperatures around here, especially for late september. high temperatures today look winchester, culpeper 93. about 83 just because the water temperatures on the bay is going to keep annapolis cooler. gaithersburg at airport 89. hagerstown 91. tonight it's going to be another mild night. 60s to low 70s for lows. annapolis 71 while perhaps martinsburg 62. one of our cooler spots at 66. in the tropics things are fairly quiet. still lisa out there. winds at 45 miles an hour. not moving quickly. forecast over the next few days to get to maybe there. we'll watch lisa but it is a fairly quiet, thankfully, period at least for the moment in the tropics. our seven-day forecast. we've got 90, 90, 92. chance for those afternoon storms today and tomorrow. saturday, we start to cooldown. i suppose by friday night early saturday there's a chance for shower but it's pretty light. late sunday, monday into tuesday

this evening is at 7:17 p.m. this high-pressure stretches all the way back across southern canada which is building south and east helping to build and push this past. this should have another nice day tomorrow. this will start to reorganize as we had to work thursday night into friday morning. that represents our next best chance for showers. it is quite on the western end of this fraud. when it gets here, toward thursday night and friday morning, only scattered showers. while we have a chance for rain, not a chance for a lot of rain. were scattered activity. but in the meantime, 50's tonight and 70 around 80 tomorrow with mostly sunny skies. but the cloud will be -- clouds will be approaching. enjoy the sunshine tomorrow. it will be pretty nice with 77- 82 degrees. west winds averaging six have been told last hour. the sunrise will be at 6:48 a.m. west wins tomorrow. 5-10 knot breeze with ways around 1 foot. the bay water temperatures are -- from the low to mid 70's. 73 tomorrow after we get into the 40's tonight in some of the cooler areas. we will warm up a little smile afternoon. a

the away from northeastern parts of canada to the west coast. it will take a while to get through here. we have severe weather on the southern side of this. but the bulk of the rain and thunderstorms will take off to the north of us. it comes together like this here's the front that sort of pulls through here today and tomorrow and it gets out of here for tuesday. temperatures will go down a few degrees behind this. however, once we clear that, wednesday, thursday and friday, that is the first day of fall on wednesday, the temperatures are jumping way up. it will feel like mid-summer once again this jet stream gets pushed way off to the north. also we need to keep you updated on igor. it's a category one hurricane with the winds 86 miles an hour. it's moving off to the north at this point. it will take the northeastern track. it is still a very large, powerful storm. it has come down in some the wind strength, the strength is still headed directly to or slightly past bermuda. tropical storm-forced conditions will head through in the next four hours. and monday reason of it starts to leave.

. by the time it gets up to eastern canada, it will be just a strong, low-pressure system. so getting into the colder waters. also running into what we call shear, which is ripping this storm apart. heading up east to new england. cape cod could see wind gusts over 60, 70 knots that way. there could be damage there. particularly damage probably happening all around the cape hatteras area. and minor damage also possible, even ocean city, where they have tropical storm warnings in effect. which means they could see wind gusts as high as 50 or 60 knots, right along the beaches. as you head inland, that's going to be a lot, lot less. >>> coastal flood advisories through the morning. because of higher-than-normal tides. 1 to 3 feet above normal is what we expect. but that will quickly change during the day tomorrow. tim has a look at how that will be affecting our region. >> reporter: as bob just mentioned, the track of the storm is going to be about 150 miles offshore. and there's a good reason that ocean city, delaware are only seeing tropical storm warnings. it's all because of the wind

. they are next in earl's past and then on to canada. as far as what we've seen from the storm, a lot of winds down toward the south. and parts of north carolina on one of our weather underground sites. we did see a wind gust of up to 58 miles an hour and some unofficial reports of wind gusts close to hurricane force. that's really about it. the rain, 4.46 inches. our rain here, not much at all of only about a 10th of an inch of rain as the system moves out. we did see a peak wind gust of 36 miles per hour. that's officially at the airport. now with the beach forecast, if you're thinking about coming out and doing a little beach and boating, looking good. 79 degrees. winds out of the west northwest at 15 to 25 miles an hour. it will be a little breezy. some rough surf and some rip currents. watch out themselves may still not allow people in the water tomorrow. then for sunday, mostly sunny. 76 degrees. winds out of the west at about five to 15 miles per hour. so back out here again, a lot of people enjoying a great night tonight. it they'll enjoy a great sunset. and then what look to be a grea

this morning. is any other place in harm's way? >> newfoundland, canada. so as this storm begins to accelerate, folks in canada are going to have to deal with it, as well. i think the big story with this storm is how big it was. and because of the actual size of this thing, they had tropical storm-force and hurricane-force winds in such a long duration just that constant battering of the island is where you're seeing most of that damage. but as john pointed out, the building codes are pretty strict. but about half the people at one point, at least, without power. all right. there you see the storm now. it's about 135 miles to the north of bermuda right now, and it is accelerating north/northeast at 20 miles an hour. it is still a hurricane with category one strength. and this is the forecast track. it'll probably scoot the coastline of newfoundland, a category one storm, and then eventually getting into extra tropical -- more like an atlantic type of storm with winds, though, that tropical storm force winds go out over 300 miles from the center. as reynolds pointed out, they'll be dealing with

, it will drag down cool air from canada but before it does that it is tapping into the tropics. and it's -- off screen now but there's a developing system that may get named later today, ride across florida the next day off in and could be up the coast and in maryland as a tropical storm with the name of nicole as we head on in through thursday. we'll be watching the potential for flooding. we'll get system one out of here, with still showers mid-afternoon in ocean city. and beaches. but watching the dry air, only for about a day. then the front tries to return from the south. watch the flooding rains and that yellow, orange and red shadings from the south. thursday we could see four to six inches of rainfall in maryland. no doubt flooding with that one. 79 today, we will end this potential severe weather threat and as we head through tonight in the 50s. heading through tomorrow, 7p 2. a cooler day and showers try to return tomorrow night but heavy flooding potential rains on thursday. we drop in the 60s but dry out this weekend. >> be careful in the eastern shore now. >> we're watching it all
